STORAGE TIPS
All Right Storage offers extra value, convenience, and a safe way to store your belongings.
Proper planning, preparation and smart packing will make an efficient and cost effective storage experience. If you need to frequently use the space, a larger space may be more convenient than one packed to its capacity.
Plan your storage space. Place items in front that will be accessed frequently. Allow space for walkways.
Fill boxes completely to avoid collapsing. Try to keep your boxes in uniform sizes; they are much easier to stack that way.
Pack books flat to protect their spines. Do not pack fragile items in the same box with books and do not overload.
Place boxes on pallets to allow air to circulate under and around them. You can place boxes on top of dressers and appliances. Use packing paper to fill out empty pockets in the boxes.
Label all the boxes for easy identification.
Leave a small space between the wall and your storage items to allow ventilation.
Pack your boxes and other items as close to each other to avoid moisture accumulating between them.
Always use high quality locks on your unit. Locks are available for sale—just ask your site manager for a recommendation.
Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in packing paper or cushion foam and placed in dish pack boxes.
All glass items should be individually wrapped. Label all boxes containing glassware, and do not place heavy items on boxes containing glassware. Stack these boxes on top.
Clothing, curtains, and drapes should be stored on hangers. If hanging cartons are not available, such items should be carefully folded and stored in dresser drawers or cedar chests along with bedding and linens. We sell wardrobe-style boxes with hangers which help protect your clothes.
Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped, marked "FRAGILE" and stacked on end.
Furniture with drawers can be used as storage places for small items. Wrap these items in tablecloths, towels or blankets to prevent breakage. Use protective covers and treat wood surfaces before storing.
Refrigerators or freezers should be thoroughly dry and stored with its door slightly open. Larger appliances make excellent packing cases for blankets, towels, tablecloths and clothes.
Make sure that stoves and cooking equipment are cleaned before they are stored.
Never store food other than canned goods in your space. Food attracts pests.
Use trash cans to store shovels, hoes and rakes. Stack extra cans inside one another.
Bicycles and other metal items will rust over time if not protected. To retard rust, wipe all metal surfaces with a rag containing a few drops of machine oil.
Try to disassemble large furniture as much as possible. Remove table legs, tie together and label. Put screws and hardware in a plastic bag and attach to furniture.
Sofas and love-seats can be stored vertically to save floor space. Always place a protective waterproof cover under the end on the floor. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and placed on top.
We recommend mattress covers for all bedding. Cover stuffed furniture with dust cover. If you stand mattresses on end, be sure to "prop" them up.
Make an inventory list of all your stored items. Keep this list in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box.
Most important, come visit your belongings and leave the door open for a while to help with air circulation.
